Visual Effect Lecture Project Week 01

This week we started on our second Tech art project, which is to create a visual effect and teach it to the class. We need to take it a step further than just a tutorial by being able to effectively explain how and why everything works and what we are doing. Since, I want to eventually create VFX for cinematic scenes I decided to demonstrate the pipeline for creating highly detailed cinematic fluids. Many programs, such as Houdini, have shelves for different types of fluids so I have decided to start with learning the background of Fluid simulation before moving onto creating my VFX. I've learned that Fluid Sims have been around since the 50s and 60 and were mathematically based and I have been trying to wrap my head around terms such as Level sets, Particle level sets,  staggered marker-and-cell (MAC) grid structures, Particle In Cell (PIC) method, which was the precursor to modern day FLIP, MPM and other hybrid methods. I am going to continue to read up on this until I fe...

Project Management Week 03

This week I built my GUI and Have started to compile the small scripts that I have made into class so that I can make my GUI into an executable.

Project Management Week 02

This week I spent a lot of time designing and researching my Project management tool. I concepted the GUI: As well as starting to collect and learn which scripts I will need to make this GUI functional. So far, I have a working script that can: c reate subfolders c hange the directory to a new location prints the current directory make a new directory at the current directory rename the directories delete both empty and non-empty directories Unfortunately, these scripts are still too hard-coded to work the way I want them too. Next week, I will be getting these to be less hardcoded as well as function with my GUI that I will start to finalize in PyQt. Finally, I have begun researching the scripts to convert non-universal files into FBX or Alembic file types. And I have knowledge of the script for the FBX, now I must use that knowledge for my tool.

Project Managment Tool Week 01

We are creating project management tools as our first project in our third semester of our Technical Art class. Our first milestone was nailing our folder structure before we move on to be more self directed goals. These posts are going to help me make milestone and be used to hold myself accountable. We need to be able to use at least on DCC and one game engine with our tool. In response to this, I have created a folder structure that mimicks the folders and DCC's that my team Suspicious Box has used on out game Liminal. Here is my folder structure: I.
